Lower Extremity Surgery & Treatment in Houston, TX

The lower extremities are the foundation of movement, balance, and stability. Proper treatment is critical to prevent long-term pain and mobility issues. At OccuHealth Surgery Center, we provide fast, private access to expert care for lower limb injuries, helping you recover strength, alignment, and full function.

Our team specializes in diagnosing and treating ruptured ligaments, fractures, and complex injuries of the leg, ankle, and foot. We work quickly to provide imaging, diagnosis, and surgical intervention when necessary.

Types of lower extremity injuries we treat:

Toe fractures are common and often result from direct trauma, such as stubbing your toe or dropping something on your foot. Symptoms may include pain, swelling, bruising, and difficulty walking.

We first conduct a physical examination and imaging of the toe. If a bone is broken, displaced, or unstable, or if skin is broken, surgical intervention may be necessary to ensure proper healing. Most of the time, surgery is not required, but we will still provide necessary and recommended treatment to ensure a full recovery. Our goal is to reduce pain, restore toe function, and prevent future complications with gait or balance.

Foot fractures may involve the metatarsals, tarsal bones, or midfoot structures and can occur due to falls, crush injuries, or overuse. Patients typically experience localized swelling, bruising, and pain when placing weight on the foot.

Our team is here to provide care and diagnosis without the wait times. Prompt treatment helps reduce the risk of worsening the injury and potential long-term issues. When surgery is required, our team of experts uses precise techniques to help ensure a fast and full recovery.

The distal tibia is the lower portion of the shinbone and is commonly fractured in high-impact injuries such as falls or motor vehicle accidents. These fractures can be complex and may involve the ankle joint.

We use imaging to assess fracture type and displacement. When appropriate, surgical fixation with plates and screws is performed to restore bone alignment and joint integrity. Early treatment supports recovery and minimizes the risk of complications and long-term instability.

The calcaneus, or heel bone, helps us to absorb impact during walking, jumping, and running. Fractures here often result from high-energy trauma, such as a fall from height. Symptoms include swelling, heel deformity, and severe pain with weight-bearing.

Receiving prompt care is essential for this type of injury. We determine whether conservative treatment or surgery is necessary based on the fracture’s complexity. Our team aims to restore the heel’s structure and function to support stability and reduce the risk of long-term joint problems.

An Achilles tendon rupture occurs when the tendon at the back of the ankle tears. This often happens during sudden acceleration or forceful jumping. Patients frequently describe a “pop” or sharp pain followed by difficulty walking or standing.

If you believe you have ruptured your Achilles tendon, our team is here to provide you with prompt and effective care. First, we confirm the diagnosis with a physical exam and imaging. Then, if appropriate, we perform surgical repair to reconnect the tendon and restore strength. We will then help you through the rehabilitation process shortly after surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, at OccuHealth, we specialize in the treatment of acute trauma orthopedic injuries. As a result, patients are welcome to schedule an appointment directly at our Orthopedic Walk-In Clinic without the need for a referral.

For your first consultation, please bring the following items:

  • Your driver’s license or state-issued identification card.
  • Radiology images (e.g., MRI, CT scans) on a disk from the facility where your tests were completed, along with the corresponding reports or readings.
  • Your insurance card or employer contact information.

We provide 24-hour access to a point of contact for any concerns you may have. You will be given the necessary contact details following your treatment.

Non-surgical treatment options may include rest, medications (such as analgesics and antibiotics), injections, and physical or occupational therapy. Your doctor will discuss the most appropriate options based on your specific condition.

It is normal to experience some bleeding following surgery. Keep your bandage clean and dry, and DO NOT remove it until instructed by our surgeon or until your follow-up visit. You may also experience numbness and tingling in your fingers or hand as the anesthesia wears off (especially with local anesthesia or blocks).
For pain management, medication is most effective when taken before severe pain sets in, so it’s important not to wait until the pain becomes intense to take it.

Achieving full range of motion, strength, and flexibility after surgery typically takes time. Pre-operative exercise, education, and post-operative physical therapy programs are key to ensuring you’re fully prepared for surgery and to maximize your recovery afterward.

If you experience unexpected symptoms, such as increased pain, swelling, or signs of infection, contact our office immediately. We are available to offer guidance or address any concerns to ensure a smooth recovery process.
